Crackdown laying the smack down

IGN reports that Crackdown’s demo broke record today. It was the most downloaded demo during a 24-hour period and during a 7-day period. This despite all the bad press like these blog burns that Microsoft has been receiving for specially marking boxes of Crackdown at retail with a chance to the Halo 3 Beta in order to make sales. The number of pre-orders has risen significantly since that announcement.

The Crackdown demo does offer some cool features such as co-op gameplay, but gamers must still be interested in it beyond just getting a chance at the Halo 3 Beta. Perhaps, if nothing else, they just wanted to see what they would be getting when they rushed out to spend their money besides a possible chance at the Halo 3 Beta tester spot. There are, of course, other ways of getting into the beta test.

Gears of War bender makes HD look fantastic

Just came off my first bender of playing Gears of War. I can safely say that playing a game on HD is much better than playing on any 480i input. The graphics, physics, and motion are incredible on the Xbox 360, but I have to say that it feels just like a graphically superior Xbox. I haven’t experienced the PS3 graphics yet for a comparison, but the Wii concept controls just feel so much more intuitive and advanced despite being a little graphically lacking. Only further play and game development will really show which direction gaming is going to explode in over the next year–whether graphics or control create the more addictive experience.

Just finished Twilight Princess in 55 hours…still not done

Just finished the main story and most of the side quests in Twilight Princess in about 55 hours of gameplay. I think it was one of the best Zelda games that I have played–definitely right up there with Ocarina of Time. Somehow, it still left me feeling a little unfulfilled. The game was unique in that the Wii control style makes it much more addictive and personal. The lack of a fairy this time was unique–instead you get a little imp from the shadow world. I didn’t like that couldn’t tap one button to get info about the creatures I was fighting. I wanted names and descriptions rather than just having to beat it down without the knowledge, but I got over that.

Overall, I think this was a great game. Huge world and definitely shows off the power of the Wiimote even using it a little bit. I am still waiting on my Xbox 360 to arrive, so I don’t yet have any non-Nintendo hardware to contend with the Wii.

I would definitely play through this game again. As far as rating, I give it about a tie with Ocarina of Time. The side quests are definitely more complicated this time around and more in-depth, which I liked. Many of them were hidden where as other games lead you to them knowing what the end result is. Those of you who have played it feel free to comment as well. I know many people thought it was lacking, but I think if you do all the side quests, it is definitely one of the best games out there.
